Experiencing Kyoto’s History from the Skies and the Streets

Starting in Kyoto’s Fushimi, a place pulsing with the passion of the Bakumatsu era, we introduce an exceptional plan that lets you fully enjoy Japan’s unique charm. Gaze upon the historical landscape of Kyoto from above, and on the ground, relish the traditional Kyoto cuisine. This unique experience is bound to become a treasured episode you’ll recount to friends when sharing stories about Japan someday.

Yes, Kyoto flourished as the capital of Japan for about a thousand years (before the capital moved to Tokyo in the Meiji era). Throughout this extensive history, a wealth of cultures and traditions were nurtured and have been handed down to the present day.

The Bakumatsu period, roughly marking the end of the Edo era, was a significant turning point for Japan. Kyoto, at the heart of this transformation, witnessed numerous historical events.

Until Tokyo was chosen as the “eastern capital” (with some interpretations even considering it as “the Kyoto of the east”), Kyoto served as the heart of Japan, fulfilling various roles! We hope you will feel a part of Kyoto’s rich history and culture!

A Historical Journey from the Skies

Gather at the Kyoto Heliport at 15:00 to begin your aerial adventure. The 20-minute flight takes you over Kyoto’s landmarks, starting from Fushimi Momoyama Castle, then to Fushimi Inari, Tofuku-ji, and Kiyomizu-dera. From this unique vantage point, you can appreciate the beauty of Kyoto’s lush nature and historic buildings from a perspective unlike any other on the ground.

After the flight, there will be time for a commemorative photo session. Capture this unique experience to remember it by.

Culinary Experience on the Ground

Following the flight, fill your heart and stomach at the Kyoto cuisine restaurant “Haku.” The seasonal kaiseki meal meticulously prepared by Chef Takeshima is a masterpiece that allows you to experience the shifting seasons with all five senses. Enjoy exquisite dishes made with seasonal ingredients while spending a relaxed time in a historic Kyoto building.

About Kyoto Cuisine Haku

Located near the Sanjo Ohashi bridge along the Kamo River, Kyoto Cuisine Haku is a place where Chef Takeshima aims to let guests enjoy the changing of the seasons through all five senses with every meticulously prepared dish. Guests can look forward to a kaiseki meal that highlights Chef Takeshima’s commitment to quality dashi and seasonal ingredients at their prime—beginning, peak, and end.

The building that Haku calls home today was once a dining establishment named Shikokuya Tanji during the tumultuous Bakumatsu period. It’s rumored to have been where Takechi Hanpeita, a notable figure among the Tosa Loyalist Four, resided during his visits to Kyoto. Today, you can still see the alcove in “Hanpeita’s room” and the earthen walls featuring remnants of an old box staircase, all preserved just as they were. Each room is adorned with calligraphy by historical figures, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of history that has woven through this place.
