This location, boasting a 2km-long cherry tree-lined path along both riverbanks, is one of the prime cherry blossom viewing spots in Tsuchiura City. No need to worry about securing a spot on the crowded riverbank! Debuting This Year: Tandem Water Bicycles for Two!
Last year we introduced solo water bicycles, and this year, we’re excited to unveil tandem bicycles for two! Now you can pedal together, enjoying conversations and cherry blossom views. These stable water bicycles are designed to resist waves and wind, ensuring a smooth ride.
With an average speed of about 10 km/h, you can leisurely take in the arch of cherry blossoms. Like regular bikes, you can easily steer these water bicycles, giving you the feel of gliding along a road.
Exclusive Views of the Cherry Blossoms, Up Close and Personal
Along both banks of the Shin-Kawa River, which flows through Tsuchiura City from east to west, about 200 Somei Yoshino cherry trees bloom, creating a 2km long cherry blossom corridor. Unlike the ground level, there are no crowds on the river, so no need to worry about securing a spot! You can enjoy the stunning, up-close views of the cherry blossoms.
The unique perspective from the water makes these cherry blossoms a sure hit for social media and Instagram fans.

“Hanami Water Cycling” Sample Schedule
- 12:30 PM: Depart from BEB5 Tsuchiura on a bicycle, heading towards Shin-Kawa.
- 12:45 PM: Arrive at Shin-Kawa and receive a briefing on how to ride from the staff.
- 1:00 PM: Start water cycling, enjoying the cherry blossoms from the river.
- 2:00 PM: End of the water cycling experience, explore around Shin-Kawa.
- 2:30 PM: Depart from Shin-Kawa.
- 2:45 PM: Arrive back at BEB5 Tsuchiura and return the bicycle.
- 3:00 PM: Check-in.
